About Us

National Network of ADA Centers

The National Network of ADA Centers have been in existence since 1991, shortly after the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The program has been known under different names including "Disability and Business Technical Assistance Centers" and "ADA & Accessible IT Centers". While the name has changed, the core services remain the same.

The heart of the ADA Center program is the network of regionally based centers that provide public awareness, technical assistance, training, materials and referrals since the program's commencement. These Centers are located throughout the country and can be reached toll-free at 800-949-4232 (V/TTY). They have formed collaborative partnerships with others within their regional borders and beyond to further promote the understanding and knowledge of the ADA.

The ten regional Centers act as a "one-stop" central, comprehensive resource on ADA issues in employment, public services, public accommodations, and communications. Programs vary in each region, but all Centers provide the following:

  • Technical Assistance
  • Education and Training
  • Materials Dissemination
  • Information and Referral
  • Public Awareness
  • Local Capacity Building

For information, materials, technical assistance, or training on the ADA, call the toll-free 800-949-4232 (V/TTY). This number will automatically route your call to the Center in your region or visit the national website to identify the center in your region at www.adata.org

About the U.S. Access Board

Mission

The Access Board is an independent Federal agency devoted to accessibility for people with disabilities. Created in 1973 to ensure access to federally funded facilities, the Board is now a leading source of information on accessible design. The Board develops and maintains design criteria for the built environment, transit vehicles, telecommunications equipment, and for electronic and information technology. It also provides technical assistance and training on these requirements and on accessible design and continues to enforce accessibility standards that cover federally funded facilities.

The Board is structured to function as a coordinating body among Federal agencies and to directly represent the public, particularly people with disabilities. Half of its members are representatives from most of the Federal departments. The other half is comprised of members of the public appointed by the President, a majority of whom must have a disability.

The Board has a wealth of information on their website at www.access-board.gov and can be contacted via telephone at (800) 872-2253 (V) or (800) 993-2822 (TTY) or by email at: info@access-board.gov
