Biography


Robin Ahern, LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker), has been passionate about advocating on the behalf of Blind/Low Vision, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and mobility challenged people at the Philadelphia Department of Prisons since 2005. Robin is an accomplished speaker, having spoken as a representative of the Mid-Atlantic Leadership Network, Mid-Atlantic Corrections and Law Enforcement Network (at the 2016 and 2017 Mid-Atlantic ADA Updates), and as an Honorary Speaker at the “Deaf Access to Justice and Deaf in Prison Symposium” at Rochester Institute of Technology/National Technical Institute for the Deaf. Robin has presented at the American Correctional Association in Boston on “Videophones and Video Relay Services are Replacing TTYs for Deaf Inmates”. Robin is a member of the Philadelphia Police Department Deaf and Hard of Hearing Working Group and is currently developing a training video with PPD personnel on how to accommodate Deaf and Hard of Hearing Philadelphia citizens in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Robin provided practical ways to implement accommodations for Deaf and Hard of Hearing citizens, for policy and procedures written by PPD in compliance with the Department of Justice settlement agreement with the City of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Police Department.
