Supporting Communication in Spanish-Speaking Children with ASD

This webinar will discuss the disparities and barriers to the supports and services that facilitated communication experienced by Spanish-speaking children with ASD and their families. Broad guidelines for culturally and linguistically equitable service provision for children with ASD will be reviewed. Finally, linguistically responsive strategies to support communication within the context of augmentative-alternative communication (AAC) will be addressed.

Learning Objectives

  1. Participants will list 2 barriers and/or disparities experienced by Spanish-speaking children with ASD and their families.

  2. Participants will discuss 1 technique or tool to provide culturally-linguistically responsive services to Spanish-speaking children with ASD and their families.

  3. Participants will describe 1 strategy within AAC service provision that supports the unique communication needs of Spanish-speaking children with ASD & their families.
