Achieving accessibility in outdoor environments has long been a source of inquiry due to challenges and constraints posed by terrain, the degree of development, construction practices and materials, and other factors. In 2013, the Access Board issued newaccessibility standards foroutdoor developed areas, including trails, beach access routes, picnic and camping areas, on federal sites covered by the Architectural Barriers Act (ABA). The Board also published a guideto assist designers, owners, and operators in theuse of thesestandards. This session will provide an overview of thestandards forfederal outdoor developed areas, highlighting some of the material in the guide.Participants are encouraged to submit questions in advance.
