2:30 PM - 4:00 PM Eastern Time Zone

Description

Accessible bus and van transportation requires that the vehicles and the infrastructure around transportation be accessible. This webinar will cover many aspects of ADA compliance for bus and van transportation. Presenters will provide insight and a comprehensive look at the updated ADA accessibility guidelines for buses and vans. Also, presenters will cover the technical requirements for accessible transportation facilities as addressed in the ADA Standards. With many transportation facilities in the public right-of-way, presenters will also go over the requirements for accessible transit stops and transit shelters as promulgated in the public right-of-way accessibility guidelines (PROWAG).

Sign Language Interpreters available as well as human generated Real-Time Captioning.

Individuals may submit questions for the presenters during the registration process as well as during the Q&A portion of the live session.

Questions for presenters:

2 We have people who experience exacerbation of their disability, for example, difficulty thinking, and standing and walking when exposed to radio frequency and microwave radiation used in most vehicles today. I just received a call from a woman who now lacks transportation because of this. She needs to see a doctor and a dentist but cannot get transportation. Most new cars now have WiFI and Bluetooth and other wireless features that cannot be turned off. What is being done to accommodate people in need of public or private transportation who are disabled by the sequelae of radiation sickness or electromagnetic sensitivity. How will this be addressed with transportation?
3 Many of these people are becoming increasingly isolated in their homes. What is the Access Board doing to try to change this? Can you please advocate for flex zones and mandatory "airplane mode" switches to ensure access and safety for people who experience disabling or life-threatening cardiovascular events when exposed to these forms of radiation. A flex zone/switch would enable it to be turned off and on as needed.
4 Would the ADA allow a taxi company to charge a fee to stow a motorized wheelchair while not imposing a fee for a non-motorized wheelchair?
5 TA and SNAPS merit systems acquire privileges access liability coverage license DMV rehabilitation services DUI counselor office?
6 What are the accessibility rules for an interstate bus company regarding wheelchair access and driver training, especially if the company leases their buses? Do all the buses have to have lifts?
7 What are the rules for a government run transit agency when most drivers do not know how to move the seats or use the lift on an over-the-road bus even though there is a lift on every bus.
