Biography


Doug Wakefield Accessibility Specialist U.S. Access Board 1331 F Street NW Suite 1000 Washington , DC 20004 Voice: 202-272-5434 Fax: 202-272-5447 From 1984, to 1992 Mr. Wakefield ran his own company, Talking Computers, Inc. that specialized in developing training materials to teach people with disabilities how to operate computers using assistive technology. During this same period, Mr. Wakefield served as an Accessibility Consultant to the State of Virginia. He also provided consulting service focusing on information access for people with disabilities to several Federal agencies. In 1992, Mr. Wakefield joined the staff of the Center for IT Accommodation at the General Services Administration (GSA). In his role at GSA he provided a variety of information access related services to Government agencies and individual Government employees. In 1998, Mr. Wakefield moved to the U.S. Access Board where he presently serves as the Access Specialist for access to telecommunications, and is the lead staff person on the development of new functional and performance standards for information technology, to implement the requirements of the new 508 amendment to the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. He also is the Board's telecommunications access specialist.
