Biography


I am a distinguished professor in Disability and Human Development (DHD) and director of its Institute on Disability and Human Development at the University of Illinois, Chicago. I direct its University Center of Excellence in Developmental Disabilities and am Co-Principal Investigator of the Rehabilitation Research and Training Center (RRTC) on Family Support to Bridge Aging and Disabilities. Previously I chaired DHD, directed the RRTC on Developmental Disabilities and Health, the RRTC on Family Support, and the Developmental Disabilities Family Clinic. My research focuses on self-directed and family support, long term services and support, and bridging aging and disabilities I have written over 270 publications, including 6 books. I am past board President of the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD), served on the Executive Council of the International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IASSIDD), and am a founding member of the national Sibling Leadership Network and Bridging Aging and Disability International.
